Purbeck Rising

I had a blast at Purbeck Valley Folk Festival last summer, attending in a purely recreational capacity (though I did get up for a spot on the open mic stage)

I’m very pleased to announce I’ve been shortlisted for Purbeck Rising, their showcase for new and emerging artists. The shortlisted artists will voted on by members of the public, with the 5 most popular being invited to play at the final showcase at the festival.

Further details to follow.

Down In The Valley

Down In The Valley is a project my old friend and musical partner Lisa Fitzgibbon has been working on over the past couple of years: a song cycle based on events, characters and scenes from Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Lee’s death. I’ve been involved in some of the writing and arranging the songs, which were first performed publicly at a private event in Stroud this month. There’ll be a full scale performance at Stroud Arts Festival in October- details to follow nearer the time.

Have a listen the songs, watch Lisa’s video diary and find out more at:

Jason’s Mates

Jason’s Mates is the 5th radio play by award winning filmmaker (and former Sonic Catering Band leader) Peter Strickland, with a cast including Richard Brenner, Hugh Dennis, Toby Jones, and featuring original music from yours truly. A wry political satire on corruption, it employs the innocent tone of 1970s British children’s TV for ironic effect, which is reflected in the music. I had a lot of fun working on this project!

Jason’s Mates was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Monday 23 May, and is available to listen online.

Gigs update

Due to the ongoing situation re coronavirus, most upcoming gigs are cancelled, and those that aren’t almost certainly will be. Right now staying safe and stopping the spread is everyone’s concern, so keep yourself updated on advice, keep washing your hands and stay at home.

In the meantime I hope to be able to share a little more music with you online to pass away this time of distancing and isolation.

Stay safe
