Whether it’s picking up an instrument for the first time, coaching a young band through their first gig, introducing school groups to traditional music or exploring advanced guitar techniques, Jon brings over ten years’ professional experience to his work as a tutor and workshop leader.  As passionate about education as he is about music, Jon strives to bring out the creativity of learners whatever their level.

Jon’s experience encompasses a range of formal and informal settings.  After teaching classroom and practical modules for the Reading College BTEC Popular Music course, Jon spent nine years running the Ark T music project in Cowley, facilitating rehearsals, workshops, recording sessions and live performances with young people aged 12-19 and adults with learning disabilities.  Jon has taught guitar and “RockSchool” workshops for Oxfordshire County Music Service and Drumbeats, and offers private tuition on guitar and related instruments.

Jon can offer individual tuition and workshops in guitar and related instruments; whole-band/ mixed instrumental groups, and general musicianship eg writing, arranging, stagecraft. Workshops have included folk guitar, beginner’s harmonica, songwriting and song accompaniment at festivals including Sidmouth, Oxford Folk Weekend, Banbury and Cornwall,  workshops/ presentations in primary and secondary schools and ongoing sessions with young bands.
